Minutes of April 12, 2011

Present:  Christa Patterson, Roger Sweet, Eric White, Hilliare Wilder and Becky Cummings.

Minutes of the March meeting were accepted as read.

Conservation members present at the meeting for a proposed Agricultural Commission in town were surprised at the small number of agricultural people who turned out and that those who did are not interested in forming a group that would protect themselves, their land, land use and promote agriculture in town.  One said he wouldn’t have time.  Several other towns have adopted an Agricultural Commission.  It will be interesting to see how they progress and if it might be something to bring up another time for Sullivan.

Eric attended the last Planning Board meeting and presented the NRI (Natural Resource Inventory).  They voted to adopt it for the new Master Plan.

Eric received the Town Forest Management Plan from Swift Corwin.  Corwin suggested trails be cut around the perimeter, red pine be clear cut around Meeting House Rock while the pine is still healthy and worth a little and then stump and seed it  for pasture – hay, encouraging wildlife.  The rest of the area will be selectively cut for regeneration of white pine and various other woods.

A request was received from the Ashuelot River Advisory Board for $100 for water testing this year.  In the past it had been $90.  The commission agreed to the $10 increase.

The Energy Committee is putting together a request for bids for the wood boiler at the Town Barn.

Town road clean up is on April 30.  This year the commission chose to get elm trees from Litter Free NH for their work.  Becky will contact Mary Monroe about the NES Access kids helping and will also coordinate food for the day with Colleen Stewart.

Kyle Hoffman from NH Public Service contacted both Roger and Eric about Wetland Permits for work this summer on the power lines over Otter Brook and Valley Rd.  He was advised the State regulates all permits and to contact them.

There was a discussion about having a wetlands scientist look at Sullivan’s wetlands and give a thorough report.  No decision was made.

Meeting adjourned at 8:02 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Cummings
