Minutes of February 9, 2010

Present: Randy Smith, Roger Sweet, Eric White, Hilliare Wilder and Becky Cummings.

Minutes of the January meeting were accepted as read.

Eric reminded some members they have to get sworn in after March 1 with the Town Clerk.

Roger brought the commission up to date with town perambulations.  Stoddard is on hold for now.  Gilsum hasn’t responded yet and Roger will check with Nelson to see about setting a date.  There is a large timber cut taking place in Nelson just behind Ellis Reservoir and Nelson wondered if perhaps some of that land might be in Sullivan.  The landowner is not on Sullivan’s tax rolls so it’s is doubtful any of it is.

Eric is working to get the NRI on digital discs for members to proof-read.

Members decided to wait until after town meeting to pursue the Town Forest management plan.  Roger said there is new damage to the trails from blow down and weather in general.  One morning of clean up should take care of most everything.  Randy recommends any road work there be done at the time of a timber cut.  Roger mentioned many towns have put protective easements on town properties so they can’t be sold in the future.  Our town forest is protected by stipulations in the will when the town was given the land but perhaps the town attorney should look it over to make sure.

Town clean up day was discussed.  Litter Free NH once again will give participating towns a choice of 2 disease resistant elm trees or 400 daffodil bulbs or (new this year) 50 bare root lilac bushes.  The commission decided to request the lilac bushes this year and tentatively set the clean up date for May 8.

Wildlife box culverts have been installed under Route 2 in Massachusetts so animals can pass safely from one side to the other.  They have been a success and are getting quite a bit of use.

Eric has been putting in many hours measuring, figuring, researching and getting estimates together for the grant applications for the town barn and library.

Meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.

Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Cummings
