SULLIVAN CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Sullivan Town Hall
Jan. 19, 2016

Present:  Ginni McByrne, Jim McByrne, Roger Sweet, Eric White, Hilliare Wilder, Chip Woodbury and Becky Cummings.

Minutes of the December meeting were accepted as read.

Via email and previous to the meeting, Eric shared correspondence he had received from the Stoddard Conservation Commission.  They encourage the Sullivan Commission to join theirs in opposing the opening of a trapping and hunting season on bobcats in NH.  Much discussion followed including comments the Harris Center made that the bobcat study is based on error.  Others felt the decision to open the season is more for economic reasons rather than conservation reasons and is premature.  It was unanimously decided to join Stoddard in opposing the bobcat season and to review the topic again in a year.

Eric shared a Jewett Park survey drafted by Leslie Casey.  She would like to hand it out outside the town election, since most households will be represented that day. Commission members felt that some of the questions are unrealistic such as the uses would cost a lot to build and maintain - a skate park, swimming, soccer field, tennis and basketball.  It has not been determined who should be in charge of park maintenance.  Eric thought a future meeting (after Town Meeting) with the planning board, recreation dept., fire dept., conservation and selectmen would be good.  He will pass tonight’s thoughts and suggestions on to Leslie.  She is also going to run the survey by the selectmen for their comments before handing it out.

The Park discussion also brought up the subject of trails in town and the possibility of a trails committee in town.  People who have shown interest in this include: Eric, Casey’s, Chris Pratt, Bob Switzer, McByrnes, Sweets, Dan Osborne and possibly Becky.  The question rose as to whether this should be a separate committee or a subcommittee of the Conservation Commission.  All to be determined.

Eric sent letters out to the 3 towns that abut Sullivan with perambulations that are due.  They are Gilsum, Stoddard and Keene.  He has not heard back.  The Selectmen have delegated the Commission to represent the town in perambulations.

Meeting adjourned at 8:10 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Cummings
