Minutes of May 9, 2018

Sullivan Town Hall
May 9, 2018

Present:  Wendy Pelletier, Roger Sweet, Eric White, Chip Woodbury and Becky Cummings.  Cathy Sims was present as a guest.

The minutes of the April meeting were approved as written.

Eric explained duties of the conservation commission to Cathy.  They include but are not limited to: support  of the hazardous waste disposal program for town residents, contributions to the Harris Center education program at Nelson School, overseeing logging and building which may be in wetland areas, compilation of the NRI (Natural Resource Inventory) a few years ago, town line perambulations as needed, facilitating conservation easements, organizing roadside clean-up day, in the past ran a scrap metal disposal program and overseeing trails and logging in Town Forest (makes recommendations to Trustees of Trust Funds).  It should be noted the commission does not have any actual jurisdiction over anything but gives recommendations and assistance to the appropriate parties.

Discussion followed on policy guidelines for the Town Forest.  It was agreed by all that the commission recommend  tree stands and blinds follow the guidelines of the NH RSA’s and be placed at least 200’ from Meetinghouse Rock and marked roads and trails.  Suggestions were also made to leave a note on the existing tree stand (just beyond MH Rock) or to take it down.  The tree stand was installed properly except for the hooks, which were screwed into the tree, possibly for a harness or to hang something on.   Eric will send a note with the commission’s recommendations to Jim Casey, Trustee of Trust Funds.

People tentatively thought May 19th might be a good date for more trail work.  Eric will send out an email to get people’s input.

Meeting adjourned at 8:15 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Cummings
