Minutes of September 19, 2017

SULLIVAN CONSERVATION COMMISSION
Sullivan Town Hall
Sept. 19, 2917

Present: Ginny McByrne, Jim McByrne, Wendy Pelletier, Roger Sweet, Eric White and Becky Cummings.

The minutes of the August meeting were accepted as read.

Eric hasn’t had time to contact Stoddard and Gilsum about town line perambulations and will get to it soon.  Wendy and Eric hope to make a trial run with her GPS which she has set up according to previous perambulation maps.

Intents to Cut have been filed from:  Richard Hotchkiss, Adam&Jessica Cullis and Gerald Grant.  An Intent to Excavate (1,000 yds. or less) was filed by Mark Smith and Kevin Wheeler.  It was noted no intent was necessary for the cell tower on Apple Hill as it is a land conversion and involves under 10,000 board feet.

The NHACC Annual Meeting will be held on Nov. 4th.  If anyone would like to attend, contact Eric.

Eric presented the Jewett Park Plan, completed by Jon Walker, a student at NHTI, and initiated by Leslie Casey.  Those present at tonight’s meeting reviewed and discussed the plan.  It was agreed the complete plan may be something to be considered in the future but for now a kiosk with local trail maps, a few benches and a cleared trail through the park would be best suited for today’s needs.  Wendy suggested a member of the Nelson Boy Scouts might be interested in doing some work to complete an Eagle Scout project.

Eric would like to have the trail group do more work on the perimeter trail on Winch Hill.  He will send out a notice to see which weekend might be best for all.  Work also needs to be done on the trail to the back of Chapman Pond.

Eric attended a recent selectmen’s meeting and learned the town insurance company recommends the trail group be town sponsored under Conservation rather than a completely independent group.  Liability waivers have been and will continue to be signed by volunteers for all work days and any trails that cross private property will have owner permission.

Meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Becky Cummings
