Planning Board Minutes for March 7, 2012

SULLIVAN PLANNING BOARD
Minutes of the Meeting of
March 7, 2012

Because of a hearing related to the proposal for Sullivan to withdraw from the Monad++nock Regional School District, the planning board met in the office of the town clerk.  Chairman Switzer opened the meeting at 7:03 p.m.  Present, in addition to the chairman, were members  Michelle Degree,  Laura Lewandowski, John Little, Ann Sweet, and Mark Smith.  Absent was member Dave Jakway,  There was no selectmen‘s representative.

Minutes of the meeting of February 1, were approved as distributed.   Mrs. Sweet thanked Mrs Lewandowski for taking the minutes in the absence of the secretary.

Master Plan discussion:  goals and objectives
Reviewing the responses to the town survey in 2010 and then the outline of goals and objectives in the 2005 version of the Master Plan, members noted the heavy preference for Sullivan’s rural atmosphere.  Mrs. Sweet suggested some additions to the goals for the upcoming update of the Master Plan that would emphasize the need for conserving energy in the era of significant energy cost increases.  She asked the other members of the board to review the goals and objectives and return with additions or deletions to the April 4 meeting.

There was some discussion of the survey response suggesting the creation of a commercial district in Sullivan.  Route 9 was discussed, but no one could find a place for a new zone, given that the state highway has access restrictions and the terrain is unsuitable for most development.  No other suggestions were made.

Master Plan:  housing
The first chapter of the 2005 Master Plan reviews housing in Sullivan and compares housing numbers and values, with Gilsum, Nelson, and Stoddard.  Members were asked to review pages 12-15 in the 2005 Master Plan and to look up comparable data gathered in the 2010 US Census.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Ann Sweet, Secretary
